Laney Amplifiers were born in the West Midlands in 1967 by Lyndon Laney.
The West Midlands was UK industrial heartland and Lyndon who was playing with
The Band of Joy which included John Bonham on drums and Robert Plant on vocals
wanted to design amplifiers that sounded different from what was commercially available.
The West Midlands has given us some of the greatest bands and most talented musicians that the UK has ever produced. So it is no surprise that Laney has grown into a multinational company with a loyal and strong customer base.
Laney can be rightly credited with the design of amplifiers that founded Heavy metal as Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath has been a lifelong user of Laney amplifiers. Today, Laney Still works with Black Sabbath and modern artists such as The Prodigy, The Foo Fighters, and Skindred. Laney are the jewel in the crown of UK amplifier manufacture as they continue to product a range of well-designed good sounding amplifiers. These upgrade kits are designed to help you get the best out of these British designed Amplifiers.

This Laney LC50 Harma STR 5881 Full Upgrade Kit It is designed to give your Laney a tight punchy rock sound with an aggressive edge warm earlier break up with a tight and clear bottom end slam.
The Harma ECC83 STR is used as it has a number of advantages over other 12AX7 types such as reduced microphonics and better isolation from vibration. This is particularly useful in combo applications. The valve is very well balanced with nice even bass which has plenty of depth. The mid range is clean and transparent which removes the mush and fizz that happens when the amp is overdriven.
These original 5881 produce a very tight and focused sound with immense attack. Laney used these valves produce a tight crunchy wall of sound which is very punchy and ideal for many forms of musical styles. They provided a very versatile sound that suits the majority rock and metal players and heavier musical styles. The nice sonic character of the 5881 in Laney amps is that it breaks up sooner than a regular 6L6GC thus giving the crunch and hitting the harmonic sweet spot earlier.
This combination gives the best sound in the Laney in my opinion for hard rock as you get a tight very punchy slightly aggressive sound that will suit many rock players. You will get improvements, such as a crystal clear top end with more extension and clarity when used clean over the EL34 If the valve is pushed with the pedals at the front the treble is forward and nicely aggressive without any fuzz. If you scoop out the mids then you still retain the punch and clarity unlike many other 6L6GC types.
The bass response is far tighter and clearer and more extended than an EL34. So if your Laney is fitted with EL34 I would get a local tech to rebias it for the 5881. As when using the overdriven settings the combined characteristics provide a warm sustaining sound with plenty of upper harmonics with excellent slam and projection on solos. This aggressive natural tone will really bring back the kick into your Laney's' sound.
The Kit consists of 6 valves.
