In1968 the electronics business of Thomson-Brandt merged with Compagnie Générale de Telegraphy Sans Fil (CSF) to form Thomson CSF. This was a major French electronic valve and semi conductor manufacturer.
Thomson CSF 5840 French made which is a special quality version of the EF732 pentode. These high quality sub miniature pentode are well known for their extremely low noise and low microphonics and are used in valve microphones. The French Thomson version has been our most popular over the years for replacement and upgrade for tube microphones. Many customers have commented on the smooth clear mid band that this valve displays
The 5840 valve is currently used in Telefunkens current production models of the AK47mkII and ELA M 260.
5840 is electrically similar to the AC701K which was used in such microphones as the Neumann M49. They have very low noise and produce a very refined sound, hence why many manufactures are now using this valve.
We only have a handful of these great sounding 5840 left
