The General Electric 6550A has become one of the great classic valves that really define the sound of the 6550A. This is regarded as the best 6550 ever made and has a huge audio following by users of Conrad Jonson and Audio Research amplifiers.
The GE 6550 has a sonic punch that hits you in the chest and fluidness in the bass is like no other, the valve has an airy openness and clarity in the treble which makes it excel in audio applications. The top end sings and has a detailed sound especially on stringed instrument. The bass end on the GE is deep and powerful with clear note clarity and definition.
These where the last of the USA made GE 6550A as have they MPD on the glass which stood for Microwave Products Division. This is what GE printed on the final items that were made in the same GE Factory in Owensboro Kentucky until 1993
We have only singles left of these U.S.A made 6550 so if you need these for a amp that uses just one 6550 or for use as a regular in an Audio Research amplifier then you can get no better that the GE.
They undergone a controlled burn in process to ensure stability. Then tested for cathode heater insulation, gas and continuity before finally undergoing our bust testing to ensure complete reliability. Due to Testing and handling some of the print has come away
if you want the best then look no further than the classic 6550A from General Electric
