Philips was founded by Frederik Philips and his son Gerard Philips in 1891 in Eindhoven in Holland. They concentrated on mass production of incandescent lamps. By the end of the 1890s Philips & Co. is one of the largest producers in the Netherlands and, with 1,000 employees, the countrys largest industrial employer. In 1928 Philips bought Mullard after a joint venture in vacuum tubes. Philips had been one of main originators with in the musical field. They invented the compact cassette and CD discs and also some of the great valve designs such as the EL34 and EL84.
Special Quality version of the ECC82 in 6189 specification. The valve is printed 12AU7WA has with Grey ribbed Ladder plate anode, double supported ring getter with support plate. On the base of the valve has the 6189 number printed and made in Philips RT Plant.

The 6189W/ECC82 was a special military grade valve that was used in aero Avionics and industrial communications equipment.

These valves were made with the highest grade materials and with no compromise on selection or quality control. They have a number of unique features such as high grade filament isolation so even after long periods of use the filament will not degrade. Immune to shock and vibration and were also rated for long life due to specialist cathode materials. To put it simply, No modern day ECC82 is made to this specification.

Philips made these in the RT Plant and these were made with the best materials with very tight tolerances. These are great audio valves as they are very well balanced with great detail and Mullard style finesse.

All our audio customers have really rated these over the years as they provide a warm, detailed and neutral sound.

In audio circuits the valves have a very clear bass response, which is both tight and musical. The sound has even detail across the audio spectrum. treble is clear and smooth. The sound quality is not equaled by any modern day valve.

Some of white print has been rubbed off due to testing They come in the original yellow and blue Philips boxes.
