DR Z amplifiers were founded in 1988 by Mike Zaite, a.k.a. Dr. Z.in Cleveland, Ohio, in the United States. In 1994 Zaite built several more amps for Joe Walsh to use on the 1994 Eagles World Tour this put DR Z name firmly in the public eye.
Dr. Z amplifiers are beautifully made and many use a unique circuit design bases on the EF86 pentode.
Our upgrade kits use the best combination of new old stock and modern day valves. These we believe will give you the best sound and performance from your amplifier. You have not compromised in your choice of amplifier, so why compromised on the choice of valves.
Groove Tube SetGroove Super Premium S Series full upgrade kit is designed to give your amplifier the ideal balance of clean headroom and smooth warm overdrive using a specially selected set of Groove Tubes.
The Groove Tubes Super Premium ECC83S are the selected GT items and in addition to GTs in house testing are specially drive tested by us to ensure even gain and checked for low noise and microphony.
ECC83S Groove Tube produces a warm even tone with a full rounded bass response. The valve has a medium gain, when compared to many other modern 12AX7 types. This makes it particularly useful to calm down gain channels of high gain amplifiers to keep overdrive and saturation under control. This nice rounded tone makes this a good choice for amplifiers where clarity and warmth are required.
Groove Tubes Super Premium EL84S valves are specially burst tested by us. We take selected GT items and in addition to GTs in house testing and distortion rating on output valves they also undergo our own unique real world burst testing. The burst testing process involves a series of varying timed electrical signal bursts. This runs the valves under the same stress conditions that they will meet in your amplifier. All out put valves are then dual matched by us on current and gain. This will ensure that you get the best selected GT valves available anywhere in the world.
The GT EL84S is Groove tubes most popular EL84 as it offers a warm clean vintage sound. The valve has a clear and even frequency response with a nice open treble response. The bass has a warm rounded sound which is tight and punchy.
The heart of the sound is the classic EF86 channel. The only valve that truly supplies that original sound is a new old stock Philips Mullard mesh anode EF86. Philips owned Mullard from 1926 and the Dutch made Philips Dario Miniwatt EF86 is considered by many the best EF86. So to provide that magical warmth we have taken a selected Philips Dario Miniwatt mesh plate EF86 for this kit.
