Watford Valves has cryogenically treated some of the more popular and best sounding JJ electronic formally known as Tesla valves. This process makes a permanent change and the benefits do not deteriorate over time or upon return to operating temperature, it changes the whole way the vacuum tube performs. The biggest benefits I have found have been a dramatic improvement in dynamic range. Bass response has been clearer with reduction in microphonics. The soundstage is bigger with more detail with a big reduction in the noise floor. The really most starling fact has been how the valve operates under saturated and overdriven conditions in guitar amplifiers. The distortion is smoother with less hardness and is musically pleasing to the ear.
Special Matched PairsSpecially Cryo treated JJ ECC81 Cryo is an excellent modern valve that provides low noise and low microphonics. It has a clear open sound which makes it a good choice for Audio amplifiers, phase inverters and reverb driver circuits.
The benefit over the untreated ECC81 JJ especially when used in microphone application or in V1 in guitar amps to reduce gain is that sonically it has more top end transparency and more treble detail. The Cryo enhances the mid band which results in greater mid band depth and clarity to the valves overall sound, it has the effect of it cleaning the highs and tightening the lows.
The JJ Tesla ECC81 Cryo is a valve that really outperforms many modern and offer a upgrade in to replace the Chinese 12AT7 that seems to be used in many modern guitar amplifiers and far eastern made amplifiers.

All Balanced preamp valves are Dynamically Drive tested under real working condition and are matched on dB gain. They also have passed the following tests:
