Since Peter Walker founded Quad in 1936, all Quad products have displayed originality in design and outstanding audio excellence. A world leader in audio amplifier and electrostatic speaker design, Quad has been recognised by awards from around the world including the Queen's Award for Technological Achievement in 1978 the only one ever presented to an audio hi-fi equipment manufacturer.
It is hard to believe that the legendary Quad 11 was discontinued in 1970, yet my own Quad 11 still outperforms many high end amplifies some 45 years on.
Our kits use the best current production and NOS valves to help you get the best sound out of these legendary amplifiers.
The Quad II Forty mono power amplifier upgrade kit is for a pair of monoblock amplifiers. The Quad 11 Forty is an amplifier born out of the famous Quad 11 which was launched in 1953 and ceased production in 1970. Quad II Forty has a level of sophistication, build and sound quality that rarely seen on any new amplifiers.The Quad 11 Forty delivers a balanced, crisp and detailed sound that is unsurpassed in this modern age. I being a lifelong user of the famous Quad 11 can happy state that this is new Quad is an incredible sounding amplifier.
I have no doubt given the build quality of this item you can expect the performance of these amplifiers to continue for many years to come. The original Quad used KT66 and provided 15 watts, The Q11 forty uses KT88 and supplies 40 watts rms.
This upgrade set uses a set of selected valves which give a better sonic performance than with the Chinese items. The KT88s in this kit are specially selected Gold Lion KT88
The KT88 Gold Lion re issue has gained a worldwide reputation for sound quality and is arguably the best KT88 currently made. The Gold Lion re issues have been created just like the original down to the finest detail with gold plated grid wire, carbonized screen grids, and a tri-alloy clad plate structure for exceptional performance and sound quality. Customers have told us that although the JJ is excellent. The Gold lion KT88 is a more refined sound and is closer to the original Gold Lion.
In the power supply a high grade Svetlana Winged C 5U4G rectifier valve. The input valves are military specification JAN 6SH7 made by RCA.
The Kit consists of 10 valves and covers a pair of mono block amplifiers.
