Brimar was part of STC group and founded in 1933 to manufacture American pattern valves for the British market. Valves were produced in the UK in various locations such as Foots Cray.
In 1960 Thorn Electrical Industries acquired the Brimar cathode ray tubes and valve business from STC and in 1961 Brimar became part of the joint venture between Thorn and AEI to manufacture and sell valves and cathode ray tubes. Brimar valves were produced and sourced from various factories across the world in later years.
Last Few In stockBrimar GZ32 has a compact glass envelope but retains that beautiful shouldered bottle shape.
1970 era production has the compact size was probably specified to save space in amplifiers and military equipment that required a full wave rectifier of this specification.
These have been our most popular GZ32 for use in the famous Quad 11 Power amplifiers.
The Brimar offers the best alternative to the Mullard GZ32 and some customers have said that they prefer the Brimar due to its compact size as it looks right when restoring Quad 11 to their former glory.
The valve is Brimar Foreign BVA new old stock with pan style getter with mica edge supports at the top.
Guitarist have used the Brimar GZ32 to replace a 5Y3GT rectifier in small Fender amps.
When used in place of a 5Y3GT the GZ32 produces LESS voltage drop. This results in the amp having LESS sag/compression which means that the amp has a cleaner warmer and has a more solid sound with less hardness at the top end.
We are sadly down to a small stock of these classic nos rectifiers and after running these in my own Quad 11 for the last year I can say These offer the best alternative to the Mullard GZ32 when you consider that Mullard are £100 each and these are £15
