VHT amplifiers have been around for 20 years and are best known for it's boutique range of amplifiers. Many of their designs are based on classic American amplifiers and British amplifiers of the past. In recent years VHT have made a range of hardwired amplifiers in China which are easy to modify as they have used traditional turret board. Here we have some excellent upgrades to help you to customise your sound
The Harma ECC83 STR Philips 6V6GT Full upgrade kit is designed to give a great rock sound with plenty of harmonic warmth and clarity combined with the best clean tone and the most detailed and harmonic crunch when overdriven providing the best tone out of these amps.The Harma ECC83 STR is used to maintain the amps sparkling clean sounds. The mid-range is clean and transparent which removes the mush from the sound when the amplifier is overdriven. The valve responds very well to pedals and crunches up with a fat well balanced tone.
The USA made Jan Philips 6V6GT simply out classes the modern 6V6GTvalve without exception in both terms of sound quality and reliability. This valve is the benchmark for that classic Fender style clean sound. The valve has a clear top end has chime and vibrancy that no other 6V6GT could match in our tests.
In clean mode, Strat and Tele sounds clean and sparkling particularly nice was the out of phase sounds. Both guitars could go from clear picked notes to even crunchy chords buy just adjusting the gain. The midrange also had an excellent clarity and sparkle which put many of the 6V6GT in the shade.
In overdriven mode the Philips valve excelled as it provides a clean punchy overdrive with plenty of rich harmonics. Rock sounds were very punchy especially when run with the Les Paul. The Philips valve really did respond well with the addition of a little gain. This gave excellent power chords with all types of guitar.
The other real major advantage of this valve was that it did not get muddy and fizzy when really pushed or lose control so it is easy to find the amps sweet spot.
