Telefunken was a German radio and television apparatus company, founded in Berlin in 1903, as a joint venture of Siemens & Halske and the Allgemeine Elektricitats-Gesellschaft (A.E.G). In 1967 Telefunken were merged with AEG and the company renamed AEG-Telefunken. In 1985 the Telefunken name was dropped. The Telefunken name is one we associate with rare and valuable valves which are some of the best sounding valves ever made.
The 6AM6S was a specially manufactured and selected valve made by Telefunken that was used in high end electronics such as transmitters, industrial equipment and test gear.

The S meant factory selected for the best possible signal to noise ratio with low microphonics for exacting applications. The German Telefunken EF91 has a unique structure. These feature the oversized black X plate anode with top and side getter.

Sound wise these are the best EF91 that I have found in the Little Dot LD1+, with dip switches set to the EF91 position they produced the most transparent and detailed top end, easily the best that I have heard. Drums had all the weight and punch and on musical instruments they have plenty of space between the notes. Bass is solid and musical.

The EF91 is a high gain, high impedance, high slope, screened pentode and is now being used in guitar pedals for their unique characteristics.
