DR Z amplifiers were founded in 1988 by Mike Zaite, a.k.a. Dr. Z.in Cleveland, Ohio, in the United States. In 1994 Zaite built several more amps for Joe Walsh to use on the 1994 Eagles World Tour this put DR Z name firmly in the public eye.
Dr. Z amplifiers are beautifully made and many use a unique circuit design bases on the EF86 pentode.
Our upgrade kits use the best combination of new old stock and modern day valves. These we believe will give you the best sound and performance from your amplifier. You have not compromised in your choice of amplifier, so why compromised on the choice of valves.
This full revalve kit is designed to give you the classic warm driving rock sound and adds a little more aggressive top end punch to the sound.The Harma ECC83 Retro outstanding feature is a smooth linear midrange response and extended frequency response. So you get smooth warm overdrive with tight fat punchy lows and that classic Mullard style bottom end.
The Harma EL34-Retro is based on the famous Mullard EL34 XF2 design and has a number of important features over standard EL34 types. The grids of the tube use a block construction this enables the valve to provide smoother output and eliminating odd order harmonics.
The result is a tight bass response with a balanced sound stage and clean clear treble. Thicker glass not only adds strength but also provides lower microphonics. The valve has a slight midrange forwardness giving the sound a full rounded tone when distorted or overdriven.
We use an original American Philips 5U4GB as these provide the correct rectification with no reduction in B+ voltage unlike many of the modern 5U4GB on the market today
The Harma EL34 Retro will suit the vast majority of guitarists from the classic rock player, the blues and the modern player who want that classic British sound. The EL34 Harma Retro has also attained a 5 star review in Guitar Buyer magazine.
