DR Z amplifiers were founded in 1988 by Mike Zaite, a.k.a. Dr. Z.in Cleveland, Ohio, in the United States. In 1994 Zaite built several more amps for Joe Walsh to use on the 1994 Eagles World Tour this put DR Z name firmly in the public eye.
Dr. Z amplifiers are beautifully made and many use a unique circuit design bases on the EF86 pentode.
Our upgrade kits use the best combination of new old stock and modern day valves. These we believe will give you the best sound and performance from your amplifier. You have not compromised in your choice of amplifier, so why compromised on the choice of valves.
Original UK made GEC & Mullard ValvesYou own one of the best KT66 amps in the world so this kit is designed to give the best sound. The only way to do this is by using the highest grade original GEC and Mullard valves.
The heart and the soul of the amplifier is the unique use of classic EF86 pentode.
So we start with and original Mullard EF86 made in England.
The Mullard ECC83 is considered the holy grail of all ECC83 types. This is because nothing sounds as good as its smooth linear midrange response and extended frequency response with huge bottom end slam .These features have never been equalled. People even argue that the yellow label Mullard with the old logo are the best, so for this kit you get the yellow label item.
The GEC KT66 is made in the famous Brook green plant in Hammersmith London and again we include a matched pair of the original military specification.
KT66/CV1075.These were specially selected and tested by GEC for use by the military and these again are consider the best that GEC ever made. Sound wise this valve has all the sonics and dynamics that have made this a valve legend.
This is the famous blues breaker tone in all its glory with the perfect blend of top end bite and rich overdriven rich harmonics.
We use an original American Philips 5U4GB as these provide the correct rectification with no reduction in B+ voltage unlike many of the modern 5U4GB on the market today.
