DR Z amplifiers were founded in 1988 by Mike Zaite, a.k.a. Dr. Z.in Cleveland, Ohio, in the United States. In 1994 Zaite built several more amps for Joe Walsh to use on the 1994 Eagles World Tour this put DR Z name firmly in the public eye.
Dr. Z amplifiers are beautifully made and many use a unique circuit design bases on the EF86 pentode.
Our upgrade kits use the best combination of new old stock and modern day valves. These we believe will give you the best sound and performance from your amplifier. You have not compromised in your choice of amplifier, so why compromised on the choice of valves.
This full upgrade kit is designed to give you the classic warm driving rock sound with plenty of rich sustain and using the higher input gain from the Mazda EF86. The heart and the soul of the amplifier is the unique use of classic EF86 pentode and with a gain thats 50% higher than the hottest 12AX7 this amp has its own distinct voice.
The EF86 Mazda excels in guitar amplifier applications as the design of the Russian Mazda EF86 having a lower output impedance; this result is 10 % more gain when compared to other modern and new old stock EF86s.
The Harma ECC83 Retro outstanding feature is a smooth linear midrange response and extended frequency response. So you get smooth warm overdrive with tight fat punchy lows and that classic Mullard style bottom end.
The EL84 Retro has a deep well defined tight bass that produces the classic slam of the Mullard in the bottom end with the bass being deeper and belter defined.
The midrange performance has been tweaked to provide warm clear detail at low volumes with clear articulation and smooth even distortion when the amplifier is cranked.
In terms of the 5Y3GT we use the original American military Philips 5Y3WGTA as they out perform all the modern made 5Y3 types on the market.
The valve set produces the ideal combination of warm top end chime with a tight British style bass response with punchy articulate top end sound which doesn't get hard or harsh at pushed hard high volumes.
