Carr Amplifiers are made by Steve Carr and his staff in Pittsboro,North Carolina USA.
Having tried a number of these amps what I really like is the attention to detail and workmanship. The amplifiers are based on famous tried and tested circuits and they sound exactly as Carr amps describe.
Our full revalve kit aim to help you get the best out of these excellent amplifiers.
The Carr Artemus Classic Retro full revalve kit is designed to get the most out of this excellent Combo and covers 2 x 10, 1 x 12, 2 x 12 and 1 x 15 versions. The Artemus is a very versatile amplifier as it provides a tonal range from classic Vox AC 30 style to a modern very open clean sound.
This kit provides more midrange warmth which is harmonically rich especially when employing the mid toggles switch.
Steve's clever circuit design replicates the EF86 pentode mode by using an ECC83 and with the Harma Retro installed the amplifier has a thickness and touch sensitive response that Is simply a joy to play.
In the Pre amp section we use the following,
The Harma ECC83 Retro is a true sounding recreation of the famous Mullard ECC83. This valve replicates the warm detail and harmonically rich midrange that made the Mullard sound so famous.
In the output stage
The Harma EL84 Retro is based on Mullard EL84 which in most people books is the best EL84 ever. The Harma EL84 Retro sound is what sets this apart from the rest as it produces a deep well defined tight bass and the classic slam of the Mullard in the bottom end. The midrange performance has been tweaked to provide warm clear detail at low volumes with clear articulation and smooth even distortion when the amplifier is cranked. Special attention has been given to the top end of this valve giving touch sensitive bite without any hardness.
The Rectifier
The Harma GZ34 Retro is based on the Mullard GZ34 and is used as it provides the correct rectification with no reduction in B+ voltage unlike many of the modern GZ34 on the market today.
The set consists of 7 valves
1 Specially Gain selected Harma ECC83 Retro in V1
1 Specially Gain selected and balanced Harma ECC83 Retro in V2
4 Selected and matched Harma EL84 Retro in a matched quad
1 Selected Harma GZ34 Retro rectifier.
Please note that this is the valves only
