The Marshall 30th Anniversary Series 6100 Classic Retro Cryo full revalve kit is specially selected for Marshall 30th Anniversary Series and covers 6100, 6100 LE 100 watt head & 6101 & 6101 LE combos that are fitted with 5881. The Classic Marshall kits are designed to give your Marshall the Classic British Rock Tone. This is done by using modern day production valves that are traditionally voiced and then getting the sonic improvement that Cryogenic treatment brings to the valve.
The Cryo treated valves have a smoother distortion with more detail and clarity. The valve has more bite and better focus and they produce a sound that is only attainable by using very expensive new old stock valves.
The ECC83 Retro Cryo retains the classic Marshall crunch and provides a harmonically rich and detailed sound with excellent 3 dimension midrange response. This valve has a traditional British voiced sound and the Cryo treatment improves this valves sonic signature and gives exceptional depth in the midrange. The Cryo treatment enhances the smooth linear midrange response and gives extended frequency response so you get smooth warm and punchy midrange with excellent clarity and tight fat punchy lows. The Cryo treatment also improves the valves overdriven characteristics providing a warm sustaining sound with plenty of upper harmonics. This captures that classic vintage Marshall sound better than all the other ECC83/12AX7 that I have tried.
The Harma 5881 Cryo is the original button based Russian military valve that powered the Marshall sound in the mid to late eighties. This valve has bullet proof reliability and proven track record over decades of use in Russian military applications.
This valve was originally designed to withstand 3G as it was used in the servo motors of Russian fighter Jets. These Original 5881 valves are made with highest quality military grade plate material for extended life in the most serve working conditions. So that is a good reason alone for using this valve in your Marshall amplifier.
The second reason is the sound; these original 5881 produce a very tight and focused sound with immense attack. When used in Marshalls high gain circuit the valve produces a tight crunchy wall of sound which is very punchy. The bass response is far tighter and clearer and more importantly more extended than an EL34.
The third and most important reason is the Cryo treatment really does transform this valve sound into a different class and provides the following improvements over the standard untreated item.
The valve now has a more punch and clarity in treble response with more bite at the top end. The most dramatic improvement comes in the midrange as the valve has a fuller sound which gives a full sustaining tone when overdriven. The bass end is faster and cleaner with far more depth and weight than the standard untreated item.
This valve is nicely aggressive without any fuzz or nasal overtones. If you scoop out the mids then you still retain the punch and clarity unlike many other 6L6GC types.
In hard rock and metal and fusion terms this is the valve to use as valve has a really aggressive natural tone which will really bring back the kick into your Marshall sound.
This is why Marshall used this valve to power their high gain designs thought the 1980's and 1990's.
The set consists of 11 valves
6 Specially Gain selected Harma ECC83 Retro Cryo in V1 to V6,
1 Specially Gain selected and balanced Harma ECC83 Retro Cryo in V7
4 Selected and matched Harma 5881 Cryo in a matched Quad.
