These Kits are designed and put together to enable you to get the best out of your particular amplifier.
Our Classic kits are aimed at giving you the closest to the original Mullard/Marshall sound that has rocked the music world
The Marshall JTM 45 2245 30 watt Head Classic 5881 full revalve kit is specially selected for Marshalls fabulous JTM45 head fitted with 5881. The Classic Marshall kits are designed to give your Marshall as close to the old Mullard tone as possible. This is done by using modern day production valves that are traditionally voiced. The Harma ECC83 Retro is a true sounding recreation of the famous Mullard ECC83. This valve replicates the warm detail and harmonically rich midrange that made the Mullard sound so famous.
The ECC83 Retro retains the classic Marshall crunch and provides a harmonically rich and detailed sound with an excellent 3 dimensional midrange response.
This valve has a traditional British voiced sound and this valve has the outstanding feature that when it is overdriven it provides a warm sustaining sound with plenty of upper harmonics. This combined with its smooth linear midrange response and extended low frequency response means you get smooth warm overdrive with tight fat punchy lows. This captures that classic vintage Marshall sound better than all the other ECC83/12AX7 that I have tried.
The Harma 5881 is the original button based Russian military valve that powered the Marshall sound in the mid to late eighties. This was also the valve that Marshall used in the first reissues of the JTM45.This valve has bullet proof reliability and proven track record over decades of use in Russian military applications.
This valve was originally designed to withstand 3G as it was used in the servo motors of Russian fighter Jets. These Original 5881 valves are made with highest quality military grade plate material for extended life in the most serve working conditions. So that is a good reason alone for using this valve in your Marshall amplifier. The second reason is the sound; these original 5881 produce a very tight and focused sound with immense attack. When used in Marshalls vintage JTM45 circuit the valve produces a tight crunchy wall of sound which is very punchy.
The bass response is far tighter and clearer and more importantly more extended than an EL34.
If the valve is pushed with the pedals at the front the treble is forward and nicely aggressive without any fuzz. The 5881 valve has a really aggressive natural tone which will really bring back the kick into your Marshall sound. This is why Marshall used this valve to power their Original JTM Reissues.
The Rectifier
The Harma GZ34 Retro is based on the Mullard GZ34 and is used as it provides the correct rectification with no reduction in B+ voltage unlike many of the modern GZ34 on the market today. So with the Harma GZ34 Retro installed it will maintain the Classic Marshall Sound.
