Tesla started production in 1922 under its original name of Radioslavia Ltd in Czechoslovakia.
It has a long history of manufacturing high quality transmitting valves and defense equipment.
The Tesla factory was known for making some outstanding valves. The Original EL34 better in terms of microphonics and reliability than the famous Mullard EL34, hence Marshall used the Tesla EL34 from the mid 1970s onwards. The frame grid E83CC was due to its construction the most expensive of it type to produce. Still to this day it is one of the best sounding ECC83/12AX7 types ever made. These are just a few of an endless list of pioneering valves produced by this great Czechoslovakian factory that sadly is no longer with us.
This is the original Tesla EL34 that was made famous when Marshall switched from using the Mullard EL34 to the Tesla in the mid-1970s. The reasons that they did this were simple, this valve offered lower levels of microphonics and a slightly earlier break up. They offered better reliability and many guitarists felt that these offered better sound quality than the Mullard EL34.Marshall would not have switched if it was not better and Marshall used these until the Tesla factory closed.
This valve was directly made to better the Mullard EL34 and this Tesla valve has the double Halo getter with thick welded anode plates and rugged construction.
The valve has a vintage brown base with the 37 factory code confirming that these were made in the Zavod Trinec plant.
These are superb sounding EL34 and give Marshall's that classic 1970 through to 1980s rock sound.
Why I love these Tesla valves is that they have the most wonderful distorted sound and are to my ears, tighter and more focused than the Mullard EL34.
In Audio application these also sounded very close to the original Mullard EL34, The Tesla are open and very musical. The response is fast and accurate in the bass.
