American guitar speakers are characterised as to having a hard punching midrange with a bright aggressive top end response. The sound of these speakers can be heard in the power and the pain of American blues. A power that was so strong that it went on to revolutionise the shape of American music and influence the world.
The Harma ceramic American gem series speakers have been developed to provide a canvass for the modern day guitar player to make their own signature sound from this immense legacy. The legends of American electric blues music such as B.B.King, Freddie King, Buddy Guy & Muddy Waters have all used an American designed and built guitar speaker to create their unique sound.
To provide this canvas each Harma ceramic American gem series speaker uses a vintage specified original American made cone. These cones use the same manufacturer, production techniques and composition of some of America most sought after classic guitar speakers. Each cone has been specially selected for its tonal texture after hundreds of hours of listening and recoding tests. The result is that each speaker has its own distinctive voice. Special attention has been paid to the speaker suspension, coil assembly and neck and edge treatments of each speaker. These features add up to a unique sounding American voiced guitar speaker.
The Harma G12 Dark Sapphire 50H 12 inch guitar speaker is an American voiced guitar speaker from The Harma speaker Gem American series. These speakers are Handmade in England and utilise traditional craftsmanship fused with modern day technology. These speakers have been designed after extensive research to specifically meet the demands of guitarists who want to create their own signature sound.
The Harma G12 Dark Sapphire bridges the gap in the market for vintage tone and modern day definition that is left by the larger manufactures.
This speaker was originally intended to form part of our custom series but such was the response form experienced guitarists that we have included this in a sapphire range.
The reason is simple, as this speaker solves the numerous problems that many guitarists face.
The first problem that experienced players encounter when using a modern American voiced ceramic speaker is that they can sound overly bright and harsh. Players wanted clear individual note separation that could cater for many styles - no speaker delivered this. They also made a major complaint that many speakers coloured the sound in an artificial way and that some drivers over dampened the top end. This made many guitarists hugely dissatisfied with their sound. The big name speakers that they had tried did not provide enough bass depth and midrange presence particularly in open back designs. They wanted to maintain the punch of a ceramic magnet but have a speaker that had a well extend bass response, more midrange presence and a neutral flat response that would break up naturally. What they wanted simply was not available.
The challenge was to create a speaker that met all the above criteria. It needed to have deep and extended tight bottom end of a 1960's era vintage British speaker, have more midrange presence than our Clear Sapphire and have a natural top end break up that cut thought in a natural way with more high end harmonics.
The solution is the Harma G12 Dark Sapphire 50H 12 inch guitar speaker as this will allow the natural sound of your amp and you're playing to come through.
To extend the bass end give the speaker more midrange presence a heavy magnet was used. This will give a louder and deeper response to the E, A, & D strings whilst maintaining excellent balance.
The extended bass end is complemented by a warm punchy more pronounced midrange which is smooth and retains that ceramic punch.
It is in the upper mids and top end response that set this speaker apart from all the others. The careful selection of components means that this speaker has a natural non aggressive top end in clean mode. The cap selection allows a balanced clear high treble frequency with the natural harmonics of the cone to shine through. In overdriven the Dark Sapphire emits a natural high end presence which will cut through any mix but also allow you to have greater control over your amp or pedal setting so you can colour the tone to suit your individual sound. It provides excellent string intonation for broken or double stops chords allowing your chords ring.
The result is a unique speaker that will allow you to take control of your sound whether in a closed back or open back situation. It will give you an extended tight bottom end with enough midrange clarity for your chords and when the amplifier is overdriven it will provide a creamy natural harmonic lead tone.
The Harma Dark Sapphire will upgrade any American amplifier and will replace Original and reissue Jensen C12Q, C12N, Eminence, Vintage oxfords and any other American speaker you care to mention.
It features a 6 inch 50 Oz Heavy ceramic magnet, 50 watts rms into 8 ohm, 1- 3/4" hand wound voice coil. The speaker cone is a specified vintage American cone which is the same cone as Jensen used on many of its late 1950's early 1960's speakers. The Harma Dark Sapphire also has a special edge treatment or doping as it is also known. This has been specially formulated for the American series as it allows the speaker to breathe and breakup harmonically and maximise this cones unique tonal character. Special attention has gone into the choice of dust cap as we needed to allow the speakers natural high treble to shine without over damping
The Harma Dark Sapphire as it's name suggests has a well extended and tight bottom end and midrange with more punch and presence and natural top end. It has all the most requested features that our customers wanted that was not available from any other manufacturer. We have built a speaker which has the right balance of clarity and top end neutrality with the bass extension and midrange presence lacking is so many speakers today. This speaker is simply awesome for Strat players who want bass extension and those needing to add bass response to their open back cabinet.

Here is what our customer Nick Gagg said after fitting Harma Dark Sapphire in a Fender Blues Deluxe Reissue.
I own a Fender blues deluxe reissue amp and playing mainly jazz guitar this amp has a reputation for a loud and warm fender clean tone. As I am a perfectionist I began to notice harshness that gave away the Fenders budget conscious amp components and was slightly harsh and unsustaining in its note presentation.
Thus ensued revalving the amp with high spec tubes from Watford valves whose expertise in all things amp proved invaluable. After a while I was still unsatisfied with my sound and invested in a replacement speaker unit hand made in the UK by Harma. The Dark sapphire blew away the stock Fender speaker in both sound and build quality. In fact it has transformed a mid-price unit into something much more boutique and efficient. The headroom and clarity and punch of this unit is perfect being both balanced and rich and full of the detail of your playing dynamics, without imposing its own character to your sound like the stock unit. I would recommend this speaker for all styles of guitar though as I do have an interest in post punk and progressive metal. This speaker really makes a distorted signal come to life, its very punchy, in a musical way that is note biased rather than a harsh fast attack oriented delivery. I think this speaker is a winner in this combo and I am delighted to say that its competitive price obliterated its competitors in value and tone."
