RFT stands for Rundfunk- und Fernmelde-Technik - a group of state-owned technology companies in the former German Democratic Republic (East Germany). This company produced valves for Telefunken and Siemens and made the famous Siemens EL34. These valves are of very good quality and have excellent consistency.
These are specially tested and cryogenically treated versions offering an upgrade over the standard items.
This is a Cryo treated version of the German made ECC81 RFT for use in guitar amplifiers or in critical positions in audio amplifiers. The benefit over the untreated ECC81 when used in Audio amplifiers or in V1 in guitar amps to reduce gain is that it has more top end transparency and more treble detail. The Cryo enhances the mid band which results in greater mid band depth and clearer bottom end, it has the effect of it detailing the highs and tightening the lows.
The RFT factory was located in East Germany and RFT made this item for Siemens and Telefunken and a host of high end Audio manufactures use this items as their own brand.
This high quality ECC81 provides an excellent sound quality and as you would expect is very well constructed. The valve is very low on microphonics due to its 22mm glass envelope. The valve also has elongated struts that sit in the centre of the anode plate which makes this valve very resilient to vibration, so an excellent choice in guitar combo.
The valve uses the half flanged anode design that is similar to the Munich made Siemens and Telefunken military ECC81
The RFT is noted for its smooth warm and detailed sound and it has become the first choice valve for many of our audio customers over the years. The Cryo version gives more clarity over the standard item, one customer summed it up as saying the valve was faster and more involving.
This is an excellent valve that outperforms all the current production ECC81 and many big brand Nos valves.
We have a small stock of these valves and when you consider the price these are an absolute winner.
