Laney make some very fine sounding amplifiers. The stock speaker in most of the early amplifiers was their own H/H invader. This speaker range, to put it politely never enhanced the amplifiers sound quality. We have a included the most popular upgrades of valves and speakers that we have made to Laneys over the past 10 years.
Special Offer 10% DiscountThe Laney LC50 is one of my favourite sounding Laneys as it has a combination of Classic British sound with a nice clean overdrive. Early versions were fitted with poor H/H invader speakers which really lets this amp down. The Laney Classic Retro full revalve kit is designed to give you an instant upgrade over the standard Chinese valves by improving a number of important characteristics.
It covers the Laney LC50 MK1 and LC50 MK2 and gives it the Classic British Rock tone from this classic Laney amplifier and includes a Celestion Vintage 30
The Harma ECC83 Retros provide a harmonically rich and detailed sound with 3D midrange warmth that produces a huge sustaining tone. The smooth linear midrange response and extended frequency response means you get smooth warm overdrive with tight fat punchy lows.
The EL34 Retro is designed based on the famous Mullard EL34 and has a deep well defined tight bass that produces the classic slam of the Mullard in the bottom end.
The midrange performance has been tweaked to provide warm clear detail at low volumes with clear articulation and smooth full rounded tone when distorted or overdriven. The grids of The Harma EL34 Retro use a block construction which enables the valve to provide smoother output and eliminating odd order harmonics. This results in the singing vocal like transparency on solos.
This combination removes the High end fizz and the harsh distortion characteristic that is common in the Chinese made EL34 and brings the amplifiers sound back to life.
You will get improvements in such as a crystal clear top end with more extension and clarity when used clean. When using the overdriven settings the valves combined characteristics provide a warm sustaining sound with plenty of upper harmonics with excellent projection on solos.
The EL34 Harma Retro has also attained a 5 star review in Guitar Buyer magazine therefore making this the ideal output valve to use.
The Vintage 30 with EL34 was the best combination of classic British Rock. The Celestion produced a tight aggressive tone which was ideal for rock and blues. The amp also sounded louder due to the efficiency of the Celestion. This is my personal favourite combination in this amplifier.
