Electro Harmonix is the top end brand which is owned by the Sovtek corp.
Many of these valve designs are new designs based on old classic items.
The KT90 was originally introduced in the early 1990s by the E.I factory. These early examples were not compatible with KT88 or 6550 as they were a modified TV sweep tube, namely a 6KG6. Then in the mid 1990s E.I did make a version which was compatible with the KT88 & 6550. This valve did find favour with audiophiles for its openness and dynamics and solid bass. Sadly, The E.I KT90 was plagued with consistency and reliability problems throughout it life span.
So Electro Harmonix introduced it KT90 version to capture this market which has proven to be a real winner.
The Electro Harmonix KT90-EH can be used in place of a KT88 or 6550 with the amplifier simply re biased accordingly. Sonically they are wonderful as they have bass extension and depth which is superb in any audio or guitar amplifier application.
The midrange is neutral with a clear top end that is not bright or fizzy. In limited comparisons with the last E.I version of the KT90 I found the EH well balanced, fast and dynamic with the most open and clear top end. This is a great choice for audio as they produced a big solid bass sound that is only equalled by a handful of KT88. The thing I really like about this valve was it clarity and I used a set in my Ampeg SVT with great results as overall the amp was deeper and tighter in response.
This is an excellent quality Audio valve that offers an upgrade to many KT88 and 6550 on the market today.
Electro Harmonix valves are designed and manufactured with strict quality control and engineered for demanding conditions and high reliability.
