Black Star amplifiers have quite rightly caused a major buzz in the music industry since their launch. By upgrading the valves to selected cryogenically treated valve sets customers have noticed the additional benefits such as better clarity, larger and improved sound stage with increased definition under distortion. Here we have listed our most common upgrades to the Black Star range.
This Black Star HT Metal 100 6L6GC Svetlana Cryo upgrade kit covers the Black Star HT Metal 100 head fitted with standard 6L6GC. The kit is designed provides the most clarity and smoothness under high gain metal settings enabling your sound to cut through the most extreme mixes without the fuzz and mush.

The Cryo treatment gives a permanent change to the valves performance. The additional benefits such as better clarity, larger and improved sound stage with increased definition under distortion are what the treated valves provide and ensure a lasting improvement to you sound over the untreated items.

The Harma 7025 Cryo is a selected high gain valve that supplies a tight and deep bottom end sound with excellent midrange punch. The top end is clear sound and it has a nice early harmonic crunch.
This provides the right amount of top end focus and bottom end slam to satisfy the demands of the metal player.

The Philips Jan Military ECC82-5814A Cryo is used as it has a number of unique features such as high grade filament isolation so even after long periods of use the filament will not degrade. The 5814A were designed to be immune to shock and vibration as they were designed for military aircraft and they were also rated for long life. To put it simply, no modern day ECC82 is made to this specification and no modern day ECC82 sounds like it. The Philips overdrives very evenly and does not fall apart when you saturate the amplifier. The 5814A improves the amplifier as it losses the grainy unmusical fuzz that is displayed by many modern ECC82 in the Black star. This valve has outperformed many more expensive ECC82 and therefore we have used it in this kit.

The Svetlana 6L6GC winged C Cryo has consistently topped not only our test reports but many others across the world. In Metal settings the Svetlana 6L6GC is really at home with high levels of saturation. It keeps the sound tight and focused and does not get ragged like so many other 6L6GC. The bass response is both deep and powerful and the valve also does not compress to early therefore not sucking the dynamics out of your sound.

The Svetlana also can project right through a dense mix without getting lost just like the original Sylvania STR 387 6L6GC. The Svetlana 6L6GC is the closest modern day valve to the sound of the old Sylvania STR 387 6L6GC sound and therefore is an excellent upgrade and the best sounding 6L6GC for metal.

The kit consists of
2 Specially Selected Harma 7025 Dr 250 Cryo
1 Specially Selected Philips ECC82-5814A Cryo
4 Specially selected and matched Svetlana winged C 6L6GC Cryo

Please note that the kit is for the valves only.
