DR Z amplifiers were founded in 1988 by Mike Zaite, a.k.a. Dr. Z.in Cleveland, Ohio, in the United States. In 1994 Zaite built several more amps for Joe Walsh to use on the 1994 Eagles World Tour this put DR Z name firmly in the public eye. Dr. Z amplifiers are beautifully made and many use a unique circuit design bases on the EF86 pentode. Our upgrade kits use the best combination of new old stock and modern day valves. This full revalve kit is designed to give your amplifier the classic Clapton rock sound that he used in his days with John Mayall. This is done by using the higher input gain from the Mazda EF86 and the warmth of The KT66

The heart and the soul of the amplifier is the unique use of classic EF86 pentode with a gain that is 50% higher than the hottest 12AX7 this amp has its own distinct voice.

The EF86 Mazda excels in guitar amplifier applications due to the design of the Russian Mazda EF86 having a lower output impedance; the result is 10 % more gain when compared to other modern and new old stock EF86s.

The Harma ECC83 Retro outstanding feature is a smooth linear midrange response and extended frequency response. So you get smooth warm overdrive with tight fat punchy lows and that classic Mullard style bottom end.

The Harma KT66 Retro is a meticulous recreation of the famous G.E.C Osram KT66 and follows the original military specification KT66/CV1075. The Harma KT66 Retro supplies the famous blues breaker tone of tight punchy lows and clear dynamic highs. The valve has a richer clear treble response which has more clarity and bite at the top end. The Harma KT66 Retro has a supreme warm midrange tone resulting in rich harmonics when overdriven.

We use an original American Philips 5U4GB as these provide the correct rectification with no reduction in B+ voltage unlike many of the modern 5U4GB on the market today.
