Tube Amp Doctor are a German distributor that selects and re brands valves from the principally the Chinese factory. They offer a range of their own branded parts and supplies which are sourced throughout the world.
The TAD 6L6WGC STR Black Plate TAD is based on the small bottle design GE 6L6GC of the late 50s early 60s.

The valve has a ruggedized mechanical construction and thick grade glass which gives very low microphonics. The anode construction follows the classic USA design with that magic black oxide coating. For the record this is by far the best 6L6 type that TAD supplies.

The thing I really like about this valve is that it is only 80mm high (excluding the pins). So just like the original Philips 6L6WGB they have less surface glass area so are less prone to rattle in combo applications.

In our tests the TAD 6L6WGC STR showed some really nice features, when used clean mode the top end is not as bright or as extended as the Philips 6L6WGB.

What it produces is a very pleasing mellow tone. The bass is not as deep or as crunchy as some of the others in clean mode but what you have is clean and rich and sweet overall sound.

It is when you push this valve by cranking up the gain is when you will really get the benefit of installing this valve in your amp. The midrange very easy to overdrive, it does not simply distort and fart like some 6L6 types. It slowly clips and builds up the harder you push it.

The rich sustain and harmonics and has a slightly forward attitude to the sound. The sound, In short, is absolutely fabulous, full of tone and dynamics. In Fender amps this valve will put a real smile on your face.
The perfect choice for vintage tweed and blackface amps such as the 1960 Bassman, Twin, Showman, or Super Reverb.
