The Weber Alnico12A150-LITE DOPE is from the Weber Vintage series. The Vintage Series gives the throaty/reedy Classic American sound of late 50s early 60s.
It features 40oz AlNiCo magnet, 50 watts into 8 ohms, 1-1/2" voice coil, ribbed cone with a lite doping on the surround. Doping is the shiny material you see on the surround of a speaker. This acts as a damper/shock absorber to help keep the cone under control at higher volumes. The downside is that as it dampens the cone vibrations and therefore reduces the potential character and texture of the speaker. Webers lite dope technique allows the the speaker to breathe and sing whilst giving the cone the doping it needs to prevent extreme cone vibrations. This is the speaker that Ted Weber made for the Fender 57 Custom shop tweed twin. This is made just like the late 50s, early 60s Chicago Jensen P12N with a two-fold surround and 8 rib pulp cone. This has that classic Tweed alnico sound which is typically warm with a smooth even breakup. The top end is fantastically aggressive with punch and clarity. When pushed at higher volumes it has a faultless mix of sustain and compression.
12-1/8" (30.79cm) diameter, 5-3/4" (14.60cm) deep (no cover) 6-1/8" (15.55cm) deep (with cover).
